Virtual learning environment (Canvas)
Canvas is the University of Oxford’s virtual learning environment (VLE) for teaching and learning. The service is accessible to all University members using their single sign-on (SSO) username and password. A cloud-based, software as a service (SaaS) solution from Instructure, Canvas is utilised by students and staff, offering an adaptable and flexible platform allowing academics (supported by administrators and other support staff) to support, explore and extend teaching practices, helping to enhance the student experience.
Canvas provides access to internally developed and 3rd party applications & tools to support teaching and learning. These include Panopto (lecture capture), Oxford Reading List Online, Sign-Up, Course Archive, Turnitin (plagiarism awareness), Cabinet (2D & 3D viewing of objects) and certain Office 365 components, including Teams. Other LTI compliant tools can be integrated with Canvas upon request. A component of Canvas, Data Provisioning, comprises a series of inter-dependent daily batch processes that take data from University of Oxford data sources (OAK-LDAP, CUD, PRAS chart), transforming and uploading the data into Canvas.
